Shooting Stars (Dodecatheon spp.) are striking perennial wildflowers known for their nodding, star-shaped blooms in shades of pink, white, and purple. Typically growing 12 to 18 inches tall, they thrive in USDA zones 3-7. Their moderate growth rate makes them ideal for naturalistic landscaping and woodland gardens. Perfect for shaded outdoor areas, Shooting Stars prefer moist, well-drained soil and partial shade but can adapt to indoor container culture with proper humidity. Low-maintenance care includes watering during dry spells and avoiding transplanting once established. Fun fact: their unique flower shape attracts pollinators such as bees by flipping pollen onto their backs during visits.
